Quire Support
Quire Notes for iPad — help, and how to reach a person.
Reaching us
The best way is from inside the app: Help → Report a problem. It sends what you type along with what the app was doing at the time — the version, the device, which tools were in use, and the last few things pressed. That context is usually the difference between a bug we can fix and one we cannot reproduce.
It never sends your notes, your titles or your handwriting. Screenshots go only if you attach one yourself.
By email: support@quirenotes.com
We are a very small company. Expect a reply from a person, not immediately.
Where your notes are
Quire's notes are ordinary files in a folder you chose. There is no account and no sync service, and the app has no private database holding your work.
That means:
- You can always get at them, with or without Quire, using the Files app.
- A note is one self-contained file, handwriting included.
- If you pointed Quire at iCloud Drive or another cloud folder, that service handles the syncing and the backups, not us.
If you cannot find a note, open Files and look in the folder you chose when you first set Quire up. Nothing has been moved anywhere you did not put it.
Common questions
Quire will not open my folder any more
Quire remembers folders through a security-scoped bookmark that iPadOS can invalidate — usually after the folder is moved, renamed, or the cloud provider signs out. Choose the folder again from the library screen and the notes will reappear. Nothing has been lost; the app simply lost permission to look.
The tutor gave me a wrong answer
It can. The on-device tutor does exact arithmetic and will not show a step that does not follow, but it can still misread what you wrote or miss the mistake you actually made. The online tutor is a language model and can be confidently wrong.
Please report it — Help → Report a problem, with the question and what it said. Wrong tutor answers are the reports we most want.
How do I cancel the tutor subscription?
Through Apple, not through us: Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPad. We cannot cancel it or refund it on Apple's behalf.
Refund requests go to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Can I use my own Anthropic key instead of subscribing?
Yes. Settings → Tutor → use your own key. It is stored in your iPad's Keychain and never sent to us. Whatever Anthropic charges you is between you and them.
Who can see a note I shared a link to?
Anyone who has the link. No sign-in is required — that is what makes a link a link. Treat it the way you would treat the document.
A read-only link has no edit ability at all. You can revoke any link from inside the app, which deletes the shared copy, and links expire on their own after a year.
Opening a share link in a browser shows plain text, not my handwriting
That is currently correct rather than broken. Shared links open the note as readable text with a count of the handwriting they cannot draw, plus two ways to see the real thing: open it in Quire, or download the file, which is the complete note.
Rendering the full note in a browser needs a domain of our own, which is being worked on.
Does Quire work offline?
Almost entirely. Writing, drawing, the library and the on-device maths tutor all work with the network off. Only the online tutor, share links and bug reports need a connection.
Requirements
iPad running iPadOS 18.0 or later. Apple Pencil recommended but not required.
